Only problem with that type of setup is WTSHTF Your are probally going to be a dead duck for three reasons:

You are startegically located INSIDE of the town.

Everybody in the general area knows about your compound..... so when things get lean you better believe oppertunist are going to show up looking.

If the seige some how comes to your area spefically and the gubbermint goons show up YOUR COMPOUND IS GETTING COMMENDEERED FROM YOU

Have to pass.

Titan Missile Sites near Lincoln, Nebraska go for 100-150k. This includes a control room you could probably convert pretty easily and the silo of course (I'm not sure how best to use a 60 foot wide, 200 foot deep hole, but be resourceful) as well as some other rooms and tunnels.

I agree with TA....a good bunker has to be discreet, and should be located far away from the the urban zombie-hoards...also, that bunker would be way too large to defend....too many access points....my bunker will have one way in, and one way out...

I've already sketched plans for my rural bunker....When silver hits $200, I may start building it, if things haven't gone totally to shyte by then...

Yeah I forgot about that point .......... you would need a nice size milita of like minded folk to live there 24/7 to have any meaningful chance of holding on to your compound.

Most of us dont even have our families backing us up.......how will we find a whole group?

Not practical at all.

You should try finding one of the old AT&T backup Microwave Bunkers. They are normally fairly remote and have great bones for converting in to a home. The Microwave tower already has HAM antennas and of course would double as a great lookout tower.

These went for sale back around 2002 so it may be hard to find one but I am sure there are some out there..

Here is a link describing these bunkers:

Quote:

"American Tower is selling nearly 2000 old AT&T Long Line microwave locations that are no longer needed thanks to fiber. These towers -- spaced about 50 miles in every direction -- and their associated bunkers were designed to withstand World War III. The average location (find one near you) has two acres of land, 1,800 square feet worth of bunker and a tower of 200 feet. Some locations still have their hardware (60KW generator, microwave feedlines, equipment racks, feed horns, etc.) All this for an average price of just $25,000. If you're a ham radio operator, building a data center or just looking for a place to put your wireless access point, these locations look awesome."

Here is another site that talks about them: http://www.drgibson.com/towers/

how about a bunker for GIMmers? would be a good group of survivalists compared to the rest of the population.
If I had to share a bunker, I would definitely have GIMmers on the top of my list!

Not gonna happen

We would still be scrapping amongst ourselves....... maybe 2-4 out all of GIM may be compatible enough to REALLY share a foxhole.

Admittedly not an optimum bunker. I was possibly swayed by the full basketball court, foosball, air hockey and ping pong tables. Seems like a decent deal for somebody or a group. Thanks for the silo info.
